Choose your filter.
Find your exposure.

Turn a metered shutter speed into a longer exposure, or find the ND strength for the photograph you have in mind.

01Your starting point

Examples: 1/125, 0.5, 30s or 30". A comma is a decimal separator (0,5 = 0.5), never a thousands separator. Meter before adding any solid ND entered below.

Keep aperture and ISO unchanged, and turn Auto ISO off. If using a graduated filter or polariser too, meter with those already in place; enter only the additional solid ND below.

02Your filter

A fixed-strength ND reduces light across the frame.
0–24 stops. Use the marked or measured VND setting.
Stops add. Enter only a filter not included in your meter reading.
For example: 1/30 for panning, or 30s for a long exposure. The visual result depends on movement in your scene.

Your metered starting time above must exclude this filter. We will calculate the extra ND needed on top of it.

Use 10 stops for a nominal 10-stop ND1000, or factor 1000 for a literal calculation.

Use whole-frame ND ratings here. Graduated filters do not have a single whole-frame exposure multiplier.
